Kevin Bronson, Fond Parisian, Haiti:
We ran our first water flow tests yesterday and today, and that confirmed that the three plugs we found and removed were all that there were. Our tests have gone well. The most recent was a 75% flow for 18 hrs as a flush and control test. We are now shut down for some gate revisions and our final hook up to the fountain in La Blanket, and should be back on line for full time delivery by early next week.
There are a lot of excited people around. Folks seem to be truly grateful. This morning I was treated like a visiting celebrity when I showed up at the La Roche fountain, and we are receiving invites to visit local gardens (crop land or field) to see how the crops look. We are planning a formal garden walk through soon, possibly Thursday. One village elder to me yesterday thru the interpreter "Fre Bob (Min. Robert Toews) and I have fought to get water here from the Canyon since 1972!" There is talk of being invited to a local fete of roast goat, which is about as good as life gets.
We are planning a little repair work to the distribution system in the next few days. When that is done in about a week or ten days, we'll start breaking down and heading out. RaDean left Sunday, Erics & Eldon leave tomorrow, and several others will probably be gone in the next five days or so.
A big meeting has been called for Feb 17. This meeting should result in the creation of a local water board, and a formal transfer of the system to them. After a little training on the gate operation, we should be ready to bow out and let them start watering crops!
