Quote from Wiebe's Corner

This may not always be true, but it's a provoking thought never-the-less. J. Wiebe
It is sometimes said that the level of love and trust we feel from others is equal to that which we give.

The Bible Vs. The Cell Phone

Cell phone vs... Bible
Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell
phone?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several time a day?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to Kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
This is something to make you go.....hmm...where is my Bible?
Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry
about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.
Makes you stop and think 'where are my priorities? And no dropped calls!
P.S. DO WHAT YOU THINK GOD WOULD WANT YOU TO DO WITH THIS EMAIL
Trust in the Lord and *ASAP (Always Say A Prayer)
Have a blessed and wonderful day!

This old song impressed me recently, particularly the question, "What hast thou giv'n for me?" It's worth reading slowly
and meditating on.
What have I given?

I Gave My Life for Thee
I gave my life for thee, My precious blood I shed,
That thou might'st ransomed be, And quickened from the dead;
I gave, I gave my life for thee, What hast thou giv'n for me?
I gave, I gave my life for thee, What hast thou giv'n for me?
My Father's house of light, My glory circled throne
I left, for earthly night, For wand'rings sad and lone;
I left, I left it all for thee, Hast thou left aught for me?
I left, I left it all for thee, Hast thou left aught for me?
I suffered much for thee, More than thy tongue can tell,
Of bitt'rest agony, To rescue thee from hell;
I've borne, I've borne it all for thee, What hast thou borne for me?
I've borne, I've borne it all for thee, What hast thou borne for me?
And I have brought to thee, Down from my home above,
Salvation full and free, My pardon and my love;
I bring, I bring rich gifts to thee, What hast thou brought to me?
I bring, I bring rich gifts to thee, What hast thou brought to me?

Good News Foundation International Developments

Dear Friends,

It has been a long time since we sent out an update, and its all my fault! It is not because GNIF has been sitting around doing nothing. Actually, we have been quite busy.

First of all we will give a little info on the Lastic Canyon project. Its time for all volunteers interested in working on that project to apply for the 2011 schedule. All 2010 volunteers that applied/contacted us will be given priority for the second and final trip for Lastic Canyon project. You can email us or call Roger at (209) 631-5205 or (209)965-4290. We are currently working on funding for both debt and future expenses to finish the water project at Lastic Canyon. A financial statement will follow soon, if you have any questions, please email us. Once again, we say thank you to all the people that have graciously donated to this project!

Over the winter, GNIF got involved in helping a Mexican orphanage. Its located about 1 hour from Yuma, Az, and about 30 minutes south of the border. The name of the orphanage is Agua De Vida Orphanage and their website is http://web.mac.com/ahouseofprayer if you want a little background on it. About 10 trips from the Yuma area were made this winter with various volunteers. We installed a water heater which was donated by an individual and we are currently working on a new septic system for them. The budget on this project is approximately $12,000.00 USD. We already have $3,000.00 donated toward this project from a Yuma resident that has been involved in the orphanage for quite some time. We are also thankful that the children's Sunday School donations from Bow Island(Alberta, Canada) are going towards this project.

During the past few months the structure of GNIF has been evolving. Part of that is twisting our name around to Good News Foundation International. The main reason for this is because it conflicts with too many other organizations(for example, on Google search), so this simplifies it. A board of five members has been elected from the surrounding congregations here and are as follows: Grant Schmidt - Director, Roger Jantz - Director, Reg Bronson - Treasurer, Jim Victor - Public Relations and Daniel Jantz - Secretary. We are still working on our website and are looking forward to getting that online as soon as possible. We have adopted the following as a Mission Statement . .
Good News Foundation International, Inc. is a charitable organization formed -
  • To alleviate the suffering of mankind through humanitarian projects with benevolence and sympathy extended universally and impartially.
  • To accomplish this by using individual volunteers who have a definite role in our operation, sharing in God's work and experiencing the blessings of service.
  • To always maintain the highest ethical standards and to make our financial affairs open to review.
  • To use the funds received for the purpose they were given. When funding requirements are met for a specific project, it is Good News Foundation International's policy to apply the remaining funds to another project.
Some have been asking about what our future projects might be. We wanted to let you know that we are open to suggestions, so let us know what you're thinking......give us some ideas for future projects!

The Voice of Christian's Fellowship

The Nigerian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite Church Christian Paper. I once thought you about had to have connections with somebody in Nigeria to get this newsletter, magazine what ever you want to call it. I would borrow them whenever I could get my hands on them. Now I found out you can get a subscription from Gospel Publishers for $20 for one year! Thats right so phone now.........620-354-2532 and get your subscription today.

They are really inspirational articles written by the members of our Church in Nigeria. There is one catch..So far the Fellowship's editors have been sending the newsletters by visitors back to the USA. Meaning sometimes you will get two at a time as they come a little irratic. I say let us support our Nigerian brethren and see what they have to say. Thank-You

Humility Doesn't Mean to Act Like "Mush"

I guess I was inspired to share this this morning to Praise God. It was written on the fly and in response to some thoughts about self esteem and becoming "mush" to please God.

I just think there is a better term than
"mush"- a spongy, shapeless mass. God has a plan for every one and I
doubt he plans it to be mush. I don't think our goal to be more like
Jesus would resemble "more mush would I be". (lol).

A couple illustrations. God made Adam perfect and I doubt it was a
mushy situation. It was disobedience and sin brought the separation.
2. When you have a horse or a dog, I personally don't like them to act
all spirit less and brow beaten. As a master you love it when they are
full of spirit and eager to please, ready to go. As long as they are
obedient you are quite pleased with these your servants. When your
visitors see you with them they know you have spent time with those
animals and there is a mutual love relationship. That obedient
relationship to God is what the world needs more of. Obedience to God breeds the
proper esteem. When you step out of the door, the dog's focus is on
you. He is waiting for any indication of what your next action or
command will be. He isn't focused on, " Am I wagging my tail just
right", "boy I wish could bark a little more like a hound, maybe he
would like me more", "I wish I had the stature of a Dane right now".
3. I seen alcoholics act and look like mush and even wish their lot
was different, but as long as they wallow in self and its issues they
are a "spongy, shapeless mass".

Humility

I like the thought said self awareness: that the self awareness factor is what makes low and high self esteem both equally unacceptable. . When you see a "real" humble person, you are not aware at all if they are analyzing their performance. I really don't even think they know they are humble,

because they are to absorbed in looking after the needs of another. To
develop the proper Christian esteem is to be humble and to be humble
is to treat your neighbor as your self and to become a servant to
others and esteem others higher than your self.

A perfect example is the Godly Mother. No matter how many children or
grandchildren she has she loves and cares for them. We can remember
grandmothers that nearly stand the whole meal, because they are more
concerned that everybody else receives the maximum service. They
always seem to prefer the needs of the family above their own. The
grandchildren that gather around the casket after she has past, stop
and think, and conclude she must have truly been a saint because few
can remember a word unfitly spoken and very few selfish acts. Alot of
times they can even find fault in father, but mother was there to
soothe your hurts and always knew what you needed. There is somrthing
Christlike in that scenerio.

It makes me conclude Humility is not just a "state" but it is love in
action. It is unselfishness. It thrives to be obedient to the Master.
It is the proper esteem to have. God gave you gifts to use---don't
reduce them to mush, don't compare them with other's gifts-----Rather
say thank you God and now where do you want me to use them? Who's load
can I lift with them. (That is something to be excited about just like
that dog wagging his tail outside the door)

Enjoyed Anthony Penner's Haiti Mission Report

Was inspiring to hear about the Oriani congregation. Started because the Haitian brethren in the valley knew there had been interest up in the mountains for fifteen to twenty years. A brother challenged Anthony that if their used and abused "machine" made it up and down the mountain without breaking down that rough mountain trail it was a sign from God that they should proceed with establish a mission up there. He reported their vehicle hasn't broken down since on the mountain road, though it has had to have repairs when down in the valley. Another inspiration for the starting of the Oriani effort was that their landlord's mother had already had a premonition and dream of them coming and offered their house for the work. Later the man became a brother. The work got a jump start when Min. Wildor came up to have a sermon. A pastor offered up his church, but couldn't attend because of a funeral. At first Wildor was hesitant to preach in another church but had decided if the Lord gave him a sermon he would surely preach. A number of the listeners became brothers and sisters later on: the seed had been planted.
If I have my facts straight they were their for two years and today there are 34 or 35 members. They have a little 25x20' church building that holds a 175 person attendance! Now that is tight. They want to expand the building once their furlough is up and in the future.
Anthony spent a considerable amount of time sharing inspiring stories about how doctrine classes went. For instance a to-be brother was defending his position in a heated local dispute. They had been studying one of the aspects of having the Christ like spirit. Another doctrine student had reproved him for his actions in the dispute. Anyways as he was defending himself and received advice from the group he fell silent and then became convicted that he needed to make the wrong right----right now. And so he did. They told him he could do it afterwards, but he could not wait.
The CSI work after the hurricanes was touched on. They had built up to 175 houses or so. Using unit boy volunteer labor from NA. He also touched on their near death experience during the earthquake. How they were going to go to the supermarket, but suddenly diverted to go to do another errand. The store they were going to collapsed in rubble taking quite a few lives. They were driving up a hill when their vehicle seemed like it "blew out all it's tires". They could see the shock waves pass across the ground imitating sea waves. A open quarry beside them was collapsing when they realized it was a earthquake. They looked back to see the city engulfed in a rising dust cloud.
That is a very brief sketch of what I heard over the telephone. If I left out anything of interest feel free to put down a comment or email me---For those that listened to the report. Oriani is a mountain village in the pine lands of Haiti not to far from the DR in the SE part of the country.

The Gospel is for Everyone and The Prisoner's Pardon

I thank God that the gospel is to be preached to every creature. I thank God the commission is so free. There is no man so far gone, but the grace of Godcan reach him; no man so desperate or so black, but He can forgive him. Yes, I thank God I can preach the gospel to the man or the woman who is as black as hell itself. I thank God for the “whosoevers” of the invitations of Christ. “God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoeverbelieveth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life,” and “Whosoever will , let him take the water of life freely.”

I heard of a woman once who thought there was no promise in the Bible for her, they were all for other people. One day she got a letter, and when she opened it, found it was not for her at all, but for some other woman of the same name. It led her to ask herself, “If I should find some promise in the Bibledirected to me, how should I know that it meant me , and not some other woman?” And she found out that she must just take God at his word, and include herself among the “whosoevers” and the “every creatures” to whom the gospel is freely preached. I know that word “whosoever” means every man, everywoman, every child in this wide world. It means that boy down there, that gray-haired man, that maiden in the blush of youth, that young man breaking a mother’s heart, that drunkard steeped in misery and sin. Oh, my friends, will you not believe this good news? Will you not receive this wonderful gospel ofChrist? Will you not believe, poor sinner, that it means you ? Will you say it is too good to be true?

I was in Ohio a few years ago, and was invited to preach in the State prison. Eleven hundred convicts were brought into the chapel, and all sat in front of me. After I had got through the preaching, the chaplain said to me: “Mr. Moody, I want to tell you of a scene which occurred in this room. A few years ago, our commissioners went to the governor of the State, and got him to promise that he would pardon five men for good behavior. The governor consented, with this understanding — that the record was to be kept secret, and that at the end of six months the five men highest on the roll should receive a pardon, regardless of who or what they were. At the end of six months the prisoners were all brought into the chapel; the commissioners came up, and the President stood up on the platform, and putting his hand in his pocket, brought out some papers, and said, ‘I hold in my hand pardons for five men.’” The chaplain told me he never witnessed anything on earth like it. Every man was as still as death; many were deadly pale, and the suspense was awful; it seemed as if every heart had ceased to beat. The commissioner went on to tell them how they had got the pardon; but the chaplain interrupted him. “Before you make your speech, read out the names. This suspense is awful.” So he read out the first name, “Reuben Johnson will come and get his pardon;” and he held it out, but none came forward. He said to the governor, “Are all the prisoners here?” The governor told him they were all there. Then he said again “Reuben Johnson will come and get his pardon. It is signed and sealed by the governor. He is a free man.” Not one moved. The chaplain told me he looked right down where Reuben was; he was well known; he had been nineteen years there, and many were looking round to see him spring to his feet. But he himself was looking round to see the fortunate man who had got his pardon. Finally the chaplain caught his eye and said, “Reuben, you are the man.”Reuben turned round and looked behind him to see where Reuben was. The chaplain said the second time, “Reuben, you are the man;” and the second time he looked round, thinking it must be some other Reuben. So men do not believe the gospel is for them. They think it is too good, and pass it over their shoulders to the next man. But you are the man tonight. Well, the chaplain could see where Reuben was, and he had to say three times, “Reuben, come and get your pardon.” At last the truth began to steal over the old man; he got up and came along down the hall, trembling from head to foot, and when he got the pardon he looked at it, and went back to his seat, and buried his face in his hands, and wept. When the prisoners got into the ranks to go back to the cells, Reuben got into the ranks too, and the chaplain had to call to him, “Reuben, get out of the ranks; you are a free man, you are no longer aprisoner.” And Reuben stepped out of the ranks. He was free! That is the way men make out pardons. They make them out for good character or good behavior. But God makes out pardons for men who have not got any character, who have been very, very bad. He offers a pardon to every sinner on earthif he will take it. I do not care who he is or what he is like.

He may be the greatest libertine that ever walked the streets, or the greatest blackguard who ever lived, or the greatest drunkard, or thief, or vagabond; but I come tonight with glad tidings, and preach the gospel to every creature.--DL Moody
